The Mission of Discover Bible Basics

A Statement of our Mission:

The mission of Discover Bible Basics is to provide classroom-ready curriculum to ministers, teachers, missionaries, and individuals to enable them to help people of all faiths and backgrounds to discover what the Bible and Christianity have to offer.

What We Believe:

We believe in...

* the unity of one infinite, eternal, and loving God as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19-20 ,
2 Corinthians 13:14)

* Jesus Christ, the Son of God, born of the virgin Mary, and that He lived a sinless life, was crucified for our sins, was buried, rose from the dead, and ascended into heaven. ( Luke 1:34-35 ; John 1: 1, 2, 14, 18 ; Romans 3:24-26 ; Romans 8:3)

* the Holy Spirit as the power of God in you. (John 14: 6 , 2 Corinthians 3:18 , Galatians 5:22)

* the inspiration and life in the Scriptures of the Bible as the Word of God. (2 Timothy 3:16 , 2 Peter 1:21 , Romans 15:4)

A Note from the Author:

From the beginning, God has inspired the vision and guided the development of Discover Bible Basics. Meeting the need for a course that teaches the basics of navigating and understanding the Bible in a manner that is inviting to the curious, the newly-converted, or the complacent is the ministry and mission I have been called to embrace. At times I have personally experienced each of these phases. Many experiences in my life have come together to shape this book:

Twenty-seven years of marriage and twenty-one years of parenting,
The outstanding and supportive pastors and church families in my life,
Ten years of researching, developing, and teaching this curriculum,
Experience and skills gained from applying two degrees in the fields of education and design,
The influence of my Texas roots and my Virginia home.

In the times I felt inadequate to the task of writing this curriculum, God reminded me of His strength and immediately and clearly reaffirmed my assignment. I have reminded myself that if He could use the jawbone of an ass, a tent peg, and a gourd to accomplish His plans, then maybe He could use me as well. Every time I have come to the limit of my abilities, He has provided someone who could skillfully and patiently guide this project to the next step.

This book is not about this author. It is about The Author of Life and of the Bible. It has been written to help ministers and teachers to reveal His love, His forgiveness, and His plan to those who want to know who this God is, how they can understand the message of the Bible, and how they can discover His plan and purpose for their lives.

This curriculum has been written by an imperfect person who has been filled with a passion to help others discover the grace and forgiveness, peace and purpose of a life with Christ as shared through the Bible, the best seller of all books. The joy of seeing former class members active in prayer, missions, discipleship, and leadership leaves me in awe of God’s love, plan, and purpose for our lives. I pray Discover Bible Basics will spread to others with similar passions and that it is useful in helping them guide people to discover all that the Bible and Christianity have to offer.

At the time of this writing, Discover Bible Basics curriculum has been translated into Tamil, the language of southern India, with translations in process in Chinese, Hindi, Thai, and Telugu. Within the coming months, it will be taken to ministers, churches, seminaries, and teachers in India, Malawi, Johannesburg, Cameroon, Nigeria, and Guyana.
